Description

These Waffle Pizza Dippers are a fun and delicious twist on traditional pizza, using crescent roll dough cooked in a waffle iron to create crispy, cheesy, and flavorful dippers. Perfect for parties, snacks, or a playful meal, they combine gooey Italian cheese blend, pepperoni, and classic pizza herbs, served with a side of pizza sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Waffle Pizza Dippers Ingredients

  • 7 oz Italian Blend cheese (or mozzarella)
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 16 oz crescent rolls (2 cans, 8 oz each)
  • 8 oz pizza sauce
  • 32 slices pepperoni (optional, omit for vegetarian option)

Instructions

  1. Preheat waffle iron: Set your waffle iron to medium/high heat to prepare it for cooking the pizza dippers.
  2. Prepare dough rectangles: Unroll the first can of crescent roll dough on a flat surface and separate it crosswise into 4 rectangles approximately 7×6 inches each. Press the perforations firmly to seal. Repeat this for the second can of dough, yielding 8 rectangles in total.
  3. Mix cheese and herbs: In a bowl, combine the Italian blend cheese with dried basil and dried oregano. Set this mixture aside.
  4. Assemble first layer: Place one 7×6 inch rectangle of dough onto the heated waffle iron.
  5. Add cheese mixture: Spread about half of the cheese mixture (roughly 1 cup) evenly over the dough on the waffle iron.
  6. Add pepperoni layer: Arrange a layer of pepperoni slices over the cheese mixture. For a vegetarian version, omit pepperoni and optionally add more cheese.
  7. Top with second dough layer and cook: Cover the pepperoni and cheese with another 7×6 inch dough rectangle. Close the waffle iron and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  8. Repeat and serve: Repeat steps 4 to 7 with the remaining dough sheets to make the rest of the dippers. Once cooked, cut each waffle pizza into triangles and serve warm with pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Ensure the waffle iron is well-heated before starting for best results.
  • Press the perforations firmly to prevent cheese or sauce from leaking out during cooking.
  • Customize toppings by adding vegetables or different cheeses as desired.
  • The cooking time may vary depending on your waffle iron model, adjust accordingly to avoid burning.
  • Serve immediately for optimal crispness and gooey cheese texture.
