Description

A quick and healthy Veggie Pita Bread Pizza recipe featuring whole wheat pita topped with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and a colorful array of vegetables. Perfect for a satisfying vegetarian meal that’s easy to prepare and bake.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 4 whole wheat pita breads

Sauce and Cheese

  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Vegetables

  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (red, yellow, or green)
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion

Seasoning and Garnish

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) to get it ready for baking the pita pizzas at the right temperature.
  2. Prepare pita breads: Place the whole wheat pita breads on a baking sheet. Lightly brush each pita with olive oil to help crisp the edges and add flavor.
  3. Spread sauce: Evenly distribute the pizza sauce over each pita bread to create a flavorful base for toppings.
  4. Add cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce on each pita.
  5. Top with vegetables: Arrange sliced bell peppers, mushrooms, black olives, and chopped red onion evenly on top of the cheese layer.
  6. Season: Sprinkle dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the vegetables to enhance the flavors.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8–10 minutes until the cheese melts, bubbles, and the pita edges turn crisp.
  8. Finish and serve: Remove the pizzas from the oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Use any favorite vegetables such as spinach, zucchini, or cherry tomatoes to customize your pizza.
  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes or jalapeños to the toppings.
