Ingredients
Scale
For the Pizza
- 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter version)
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- ½ cup water
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup diced red onion
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- ¼ cup sliced black olives
- ½ cup salsa or taco sauce
Optional Toppings
- Sour cream
- Jalapeños
- Chopped cilantro
- Crumbled tortilla chips
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating to get it hot for a crispier crust.
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it is fully browned. Drain any excess fat. Then add the taco seasoning packet and ½ cup of water, stirring well. Let it simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the Pizza Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to your preferred size and thickness. Transfer the dough onto a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone. If using store-bought dough, follow any instructions for pre-baking if applicable.
- Assemble the Pizza: Spread a thin, even layer of salsa or taco sauce over the dough, leaving a border around the edges to form a crust. Evenly distribute the taco-seasoned ground beef over the sauce. Next, sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly on top.
- Bake the Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese has melted completely and the crust turns a golden brown.
- Add Fresh Toppings: Remove the baked pizza from the oven. Immediately top it with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, diced red onion, and sliced black olives. Optionally, add dollops of sour cream, jalapeño slices, chopped cilantro, or crumbled tortilla chips for extra flavor and texture.
- Slice and Serve: Cut the pizza into slices and serve right away, enjoying this delicious fusion of taco and pizza flavors.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey for ground beef.
- Using a pizza stone helps achieve a crispier crust, but a baking sheet works well too.
- If you prefer a spicier pizza, add extra jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
- Pre-baking the dough slightly can prevent a soggy base when using wet toppings.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven for best results.
