Description

Sugared Cranberries are a simple and elegant treat made by coating fresh cranberries in a shimmering sugar syrup and then rolling them in granulated sugar. Perfect for garnishing cocktails, desserts, or adding a festive touch to your holiday dishes, these cranberries are crisp, sweet, and tangy all at once.

Ingredients

Scale

Sugar Syrup

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water

Cranberries

  • 3 cups fresh cranberries (rinsed and dried)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Workspace: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and place a wire rack on top. Set this aside for drying the cranberries.
  2. Make Sugar Syrup: Combine ½ cup granulated sugar and ½ cup water in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat.
  3. Simmer Syrup: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until all the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat.
  4. Coat Cranberries: Add the 3 cups of fresh cranberries to the warm sugar syrup, tossing and stirring for about one minute to ensure they are evenly coated.
  5. Dry Cranberries: Transfer the coated cranberries to the prepared wire rack placed over the parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow them to cool and dry at room temperature for approximately 1 hour.
  6. Sugar Coat: After drying, toss the cranberries in the remaining 1 cup of granulated sugar to give them a sparkling sugary coating.
  7. Store or Serve: Use these sugared cranberries immediately as a garnish or in recipes, or store them in an airtight container until ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • Make sure cranberries are dry before coating to help the sugar syrup stick better.
  • Allow cranberries to dry thoroughly on the wire rack to ensure the sugar coating adheres nicely.
  • Store sugared cranberries in a cool, dry place in an airtight container to maintain their crunch.
  • These cranberries can enhance cocktails, desserts, or be used as a festive garnish for holiday dishes.
