Description

These Spooky Halloween Rice Krispie Treats are a fun and festive dessert perfect for celebrating the spooky season. Made with classic marshmallow and crispy cereal base, they are decorated with vibrant green and black candy melts, royal icing eyes, and black jimmies sprinkles to create eerie, monster-like treats that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
  • One 10oz bag mini marshmallows
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter

Decorations

  • 10oz green candy melts
  • 3oz black candy melts
  • Royal icing eyes
  • Black jimmies sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prep the Pan: Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan lightly with butter or non-stick spray and set aside.
  2. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan over low heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Once melted, add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Combine Cereal: Remove the marshmallow mixture from heat and quickly stir in the 6 cups of Rice Krispie cereal until well coated.
  4. Press Into Pan: Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and gently press evenly with a buttered spatula to form a compact layer. Allow to cool slightly.
  5. Melt Candy Melts: In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the 10oz green candy melts and 3oz black candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  6. Decorate Treats: Once the Rice Krispie base is cooled and firm, drizzle or spread the melted green candy melts over the top. Use the black candy melts to add spooky accents such as mouths or outlines. Place royal icing eyes randomly on the surface to create monster faces. Sprinkle black jimmies over for added texture and spookiness.
  7. Set and Serve: Allow the decorated treats to set at room temperature or in the fridge until the candy melts harden. Cut into 15 squares and serve.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, ensure the Rice Krispies cereal is certified gluten-free.
  • You can substitute candy melts with colored white chocolate if preferred.
  • Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Add food coloring to the marshmallow mixture for extra colorful bases if desired.
  • Be careful not to overheat candy melts to prevent seizing.
