Description

These Soft Molasses Cookies are a classic holiday treat, with a perfect balance of warm spices and sweet molasses flavor. These chewy cookies are easy to make and even easier to enjoy!

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare baking sheets: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Form and bake: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, coat in granulated sugar, and place on baking sheets. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes.
  7. Cool and serve: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
