Description

These Old-Fashioned Apple Dumplings are a classic dessert featuring tender baked apples wrapped in a flaky pastry, drizzled with a sweet buttery sauce. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dumplings:

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 sheet refrigerated pie crust or homemade pastry dough, rolled and cut into 4 squares
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
  2. Prepare the filling: Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut apples in half, place each on a dough square, fill with brown sugar mix, and butter. Wrap dough around apples.
  3. Make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, butter, and vanilla. Simmer, then pour over the dumplings.
  4. Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and apples are tender, basting with sauce during baking.
  5. Serve: Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • You can use puff pastry for a flakier texture.
