- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
- 1 sheet refrigerated pie crust or homemade pastry dough, rolled and cut into 4 squares
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the Sauce:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
- Prepare the filling: Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut apples in half, place each on a dough square, fill with brown sugar mix, and butter. Wrap dough around apples.
- Make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, butter, and vanilla. Simmer, then pour over the dumplings.
- Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and apples are tender, basting with sauce during baking.
- Serve: Let cool slightly before serving.
