Description

These Monster Rice Krispie Treats are a fun and colorful twist on the classic no-bake dessert. Perfect for Halloween or kids’ parties, they combine crispy Rice Krispies cereal with melted marshmallows tinted in vibrant hues, adorned with candy eyes and optional white chocolate drizzle for an extra playful touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 package (10 ounces) mini marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Coloring and Decoration

  • Assorted food coloring (green, purple, orange, blue)
  • Candy eyes
  • 1 cup white chocolate or candy melts (optional for drizzle)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9×13-inch pan with butter or nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add mini marshmallows and stir continuously until they are completely melted and smooth.
  3. Add Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract for flavor.
  4. Divide and Color: Quickly divide the melted marshmallow mixture evenly into several bowls and tint each portion with your chosen food coloring, stirring well to combine.
  5. Mix with Cereal: Into each colored bowl, add 1 1/2 cups Rice Krispies cereal and gently stir until every piece is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  6. Press into Pan: Press each colored mixture into sections of the prepared pan, using a greased spatula or parchment paper to press gently and evenly.
  7. Cool and Cut: Allow the treats to cool and set for about 30 minutes. Once firm, cut into squares or rectangles.
  8. Decorate: Add candy eyes, drizzle with melted white chocolate or candy melts, and sprinkle with optional sprinkles to create the monster faces and complete the look.

Notes

  • Work quickly after tinting the marshmallow mixture as it sets fast.
  • Use a smaller pan if you prefer thicker treats.
  • Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
