Description

Lemon Basil Hummus is a fresh and flavorful twist on traditional hummus, combining creamy chickpeas with bright lemon juice and fragrant basil. This easy no-cook Mediterranean-inspired dip is perfect as an appetizer or snack, served with pita, crackers, or fresh vegetables. Vibrant, delicious, and vegan-friendly, it’s a healthy choice for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Hummus Base

  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 large lemon)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for garnish)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Herbs & Garnish

  • 1/4 cup packed fresh basil leaves
  • 2–3 tablespoons water (as needed for texture)
  • Lemon zest (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a food processor, add the drained chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper. This combination forms the creamy base of the hummus.
  2. Process Smooth: Pulse and process the mixture until smooth, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides of the processor bowl to ensure even blending.
  3. Add Basil: Add the fresh basil leaves into the processor and blend again until fully incorporated and the hummus has a creamy, uniform texture.
  4. Adjust Consistency: If the hummus is too thick, add water one tablespoon at a time while blending until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Season to Taste: Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning by adding more salt, pepper, or lemon juice if necessary.
  6. Serve: Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle extra olive oil on top and sprinkle with lemon zest if using. Serve chilled or at room temperature alongside pita, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • For a deeper, sweeter garlic flavor, roast the garlic before blending.
  • This hummus keeps well refrigerated for up to 5 days, making it perfect for meal prep or parties.
