Description

This homemade cold brew coffee recipe offers a smooth, richly brewed coffee concentrate made by steeping medium to coarse coffee grounds in cold water for 12-14 hours. Perfect for a refreshing iced coffee, this method produces a less acidic, flavorful drink that can be customized with milk, water, or sweeteners.

Ingredients

Scale

Cold Brew Coffee Ingredients

  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1 cup medium to coarse ground coffee

Instructions

  1. Prepare Coffee and Water: In a large bowl or jar, pour 4 cups of cold water and evenly sprinkle 1 cup of medium to coarse ground coffee over the surface. Allow the coffee to bloom for about 30 to 60 seconds, then stir the mixture gently to combine the grounds and water.
  2. Steep the Coffee: Cover the container and place it in the refrigerator. Let it steep undisturbed for 12 to 14 hours to extract the rich flavors, creating a smooth cold brew concentrate.
  3. Strain the Coffee: Line a mesh strainer with layers of cheesecloth and position it over a large bowl or jar. Slowly pour the steeped coffee through the cheesecloth to filter out the grounds. For an extra smooth cold brew, strain the coffee a second time through a clean cheesecloth.
  4. Store and Serve: Transfer the cold brew concentrate into a clean jar and keep it refrigerated, covered, for up to two weeks. When ready to drink, pour over ice and dilute with your preferred ratio of water, milk, or sweetener to taste.

Notes

  • Use medium to coarse ground coffee to prevent overly bitter extraction and ease filtering.
  • Adjust steeping time between 12 to 14 hours based on desired strength – longer steeping yields stronger concentrate.
  • Double straining results in a smoother, grit-free cold brew.
  • Keep cold brew refrigerated and consume within two weeks for freshness.
  • Customize your serving by adding milk, cream, sweeteners, or flavored syrups as preferred.
