Description

Celebrate Halloween with these adorable Halloween Witch Hat Cupcakes featuring rich chocolate cake, creamy frosting, and whimsical chocolate cone witch hats decorated with festive sprinkles and colored candy melts. Perfect for parties and spooky treats!

Ingredients

Scale

Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
  • cupcake liners

Frosting and Decoration

  • 1 cup chocolate frosting
  • 12 chocolate sugar cones
  • 12 chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • assorted Halloween sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup candy melts or white chocolate (colored green, purple, or orange)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional, for smoother melted chocolate)
  • black food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare cupcakes: Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions and line a cupcake pan with liners. Prepare the chocolate cake batter as directed on the box and fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full. Bake the cupcakes and allow them to cool completely.
  2. Melt candy melts: While the cupcakes cool, melt the candy melts or colored white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. If the melted chocolate is too thick, stir in coconut oil for a smoother consistency.
  3. Decorate sugar cones: Dip the open ends of the chocolate sugar cones into the melted candy melts to coat the rims. Then, immediately add Halloween sprinkles around the rims. Place the cones on parchment paper and let the coating set.
  4. Frost cupcakes: Frost each cooled cupcake with a generous layer of chocolate frosting.
  5. Assemble witch hats: Place a chocolate sandwich cookie on top of each frosted cupcake; this serves as the base of the witch hat. Then, set a chocolate-dipped sugar cone upside-down on top of each cookie, completing the witch hat look.
  6. Optional decoration: Drizzle additional melted candy melts around the base of the cone to mimic a ribbon. Decorate further with more Halloween sprinkles or colored icing as desired.
  7. Chill and serve: Chill the cupcakes briefly to allow the decorations to set firmly before serving.

Notes

  • You can use any cupcake flavor, but chocolate provides the best witchy appearance.
  • For a spooky surprise, fill cupcakes with green or orange frosting inside before baking or after cooling.
  • The decorated cones can be prepared ahead of time and stored in a cool place until assembly.
