Description

Golden-brown French Toast Roll-Ups are a delicious and fun breakfast treat featuring soft white bread slices rolled with a creamy sweetened cream cheese filling and strawberry jam, then pan-fried to perfection and coated with cinnamon sugar for a warm, flavorful finish. Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, these roll-ups are easy to make and can be customized with different fillings.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Filling

  • 8 slices of soft white sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup strawberry jam (or your favorite fruit preserves)

Egg Batter and Coating

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for cooking

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread: Flatten each slice of bread using a rolling pin to make it easier to roll without tearing.
  2. Make the cream cheese filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Assemble the roll-ups: Spread about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture evenly on each flattened bread slice, then add a thin layer of strawberry jam on top. Roll up each slice tightly into a log shape.
  4. Prepare the egg mixture: In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Mix cinnamon sugar: In another small bowl, stir together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for coating.
  6. Cook the roll-ups: Heat the unsalted butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Dip each roll-up into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then place seam-side down in the skillet. Cook, turning frequently, until all sides are golden brown and cooked through, about 5–7 minutes total.
  7. Coat with cinnamon sugar: Immediately roll each cooked French toast roll-up in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to evenly coat.
  8. Serve warm: Enjoy these French Toast Roll-Ups fresh off the stove for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Substitute the cream cheese filling with Nutella or peanut butter for different flavor variations.
  • These roll-ups are best served fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in a toaster oven for convenience.
