Description

Fire Cider Tonic is a potent, homemade herbal tonic known for its immune-boosting properties. Made with fresh oranges, lemons, ginger, horseradish, garlic, raw honey, and apple cider vinegar, this traditional remedy infuses these powerful ingredients over several weeks to create a tangy, spicy elixir perfect for supporting overall health.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruits

  • 2 Oranges (quartered)
  • 2 Lemons (quartered)

Roots and Aromatics

  • 7 oz Ginger root (peeled and sliced)
  • 7 oz Horseradish root (peeled and sliced)
  • 2 Heads of garlic (crushed)

Liquids and Sweeteners

  • 2 bottles Apple Cider Vinegar with The Mother (enough to fully submerge ingredients)
  • 2-3 tbsp Raw honey

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather and wash all fresh produce thoroughly to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  2. Cut Citrus: Quarter the oranges and lemons, keeping their peels intact to retain essential oils and flavor.
  3. Slice and Crush: Slice the ginger and horseradish roots and crush the garlic to release their potent juices and compounds.
  4. Layer Ingredients: In a large glass jar, layer the oranges, lemons, ginger, horseradish, and garlic evenly to ensure balanced infusion.
  5. Add Vinegar: Pour apple cider vinegar with the mother over the layered ingredients, making sure all solids are completely submerged to prevent spoilage.
  6. Sweeten and Seal: Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of raw honey on top for sweetness and natural preservation, then seal the jar tightly.
  7. Store and Steep: Place the jar in a cool, dark place and allow the tonic to steep for 4 to 6 weeks, shaking gently every few days to mix ingredients and distribute flavors.
  8. Strain and Bottle: After steeping, strain the solids through a fine mesh or cheesecloth and transfer the infused liquid into clean jars for storage and use.

Notes

  • Use a non-metallic lid or cover it with parchment under the lid to avoid any reaction with vinegar.
  • The tonic can be taken daily by the tablespoon to support immunity.
  • Adjust honey to taste based on desired sweetness and personal preference.
  • Keep the jar in a cool, dark place to enhance preservation and flavor development.
  • Ensure all fresh produce is organic or thoroughly washed to reduce pesticides and contaminants.
  • The tonic improves with age; longer steeping times deepen flavor and potency.
