Description

This Easy Canned Tuna Pasta is a quick and flavorful meal perfect for busy weeknights. Combining simple pantry staples like canned tuna, garlic, olive oil, and fresh parsley with perfectly cooked spaghetti, it comes together in just 15 minutes. The light lemon juice adds a bright touch, making a satisfying and healthy pasta dish that serves two.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 4 ounces uncooked spaghetti pasta

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (5 ounce) can tuna, drained (preferably packed in oil)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Garnish

  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • Lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. While the pasta cooks, prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Sauté Garlic: When the pasta is nearly done, heat olive oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Add Tuna and Flavor: Stir in the drained tuna, lemon juice, and chopped parsley. Cook the mixture until heated through, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Before draining the pasta, reserve a couple of tablespoons of the starchy pasta water and add it to the tuna sauce to loosen it. Drain the pasta and toss it thoroughly with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve: Optionally, top with freshly grated parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of lemon zest. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using tuna packed in oil adds richer flavor, but tuna in water can be used for a lighter dish.
  • Reserve pasta water as it helps the sauce adhere better to the pasta.
  • Add freshly grated parmesan and lemon zest for extra flavor and brightness.
  • This dish pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
