Instructions
- Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
- Drain excess fat: Once the beef is fully browned, drain any excess fat and return the beef to the skillet.
- Add taco seasoning: Add the taco seasoning packet to the beef and pour in the 1/4 cup of water.
- Simmer the beef mixture: Stir well to combine and cook the mixture for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and is evenly distributed.
- Remove from heat: Remove the skillet from the heat and set the seasoned beef mixture aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare salad base: In a large bowl, place the crushed Doritos chips as the base of your salad.
- Add lettuce: Shred the head of lettuce into bite-sized pieces and evenly layer it over the crushed chips.
- Sprinkle cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the lettuce, covering the entire surface.
- Add sour cream: Dollop the sour cream onto the salad in small spoonfuls, gently spreading it with the back of a spoon.
- Layer salsa: Add the salsa in an even layer over the sour cream.
- Add onion: Dice the red onion and sprinkle it over the salsa for crunch and flavor.
- Add tomatoes: Halve the cherry tomatoes and scatter them evenly across the top of the salad.
- Add olives: Slice the black olives and sprinkle them over the tomatoes.
- Top with beef: Spoon the warm seasoned beef mixture over the top of the salad.
- Serve immediately: Serve right away while the beef is warm and the Doritos remain crispy.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add jalapeño slices or hot sauce.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein.
- Use low-fat sour cream to reduce fat content.
- To keep the chips crisp, assemble the salad just before serving.
- For a vegetarian version, omit the meat and increase beans or use plant-based meat crumbles.
