Description

This Doritos Taco Salad is a flavorful and crunchy dish combining seasoned ground beef, fresh vegetables, shredded cheese, and creamy toppings served over a bed of crushed Doritos chips. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal with a delightful Tex-Mex flair.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein and Seasoning

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water

Base and Vegetables

  • 2 cups Doritos chips, crushed
  • 1 head lettuce, shredded
  • 1/2 cup red onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced

Dairy and Condiments

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup salsa

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  2. Drain excess fat: Once the beef is fully browned, drain any excess fat and return the beef to the skillet.
  3. Add taco seasoning: Add the taco seasoning packet to the beef and pour in the 1/4 cup of water.
  4. Simmer the beef mixture: Stir well to combine and cook the mixture for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and is evenly distributed.
  5. Remove from heat: Remove the skillet from the heat and set the seasoned beef mixture aside to cool slightly.
  6. Prepare salad base: In a large bowl, place the crushed Doritos chips as the base of your salad.
  7. Add lettuce: Shred the head of lettuce into bite-sized pieces and evenly layer it over the crushed chips.
  8. Sprinkle cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the lettuce, covering the entire surface.
  9. Add sour cream: Dollop the sour cream onto the salad in small spoonfuls, gently spreading it with the back of a spoon.
  10. Layer salsa: Add the salsa in an even layer over the sour cream.
  11. Add onion: Dice the red onion and sprinkle it over the salsa for crunch and flavor.
  12. Add tomatoes: Halve the cherry tomatoes and scatter them evenly across the top of the salad.
  13. Add olives: Slice the black olives and sprinkle them over the tomatoes.
  14. Top with beef: Spoon the warm seasoned beef mixture over the top of the salad.
  15. Serve immediately: Serve right away while the beef is warm and the Doritos remain crispy.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add jalapeño slices or hot sauce.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein.
  • Use low-fat sour cream to reduce fat content.
  • To keep the chips crisp, assemble the salad just before serving.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit the meat and increase beans or use plant-based meat crumbles.
