Scale
Pie Base
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
Filling
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon bourbon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the pie.
- Mix Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
- Add Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time into the butter-sugar mixture, beating well after each addition to incorporate fully.
- Combine Dry Ingredients and Flavorings: Stir in the flour, optional bourbon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the batter is smooth and homogenous.
- Fold in Chocolate and Nuts: Gently fold the semisweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts or pecans into the batter, ensuring even distribution.
- Fill Pie Crust: Pour the filling mixture into the unbaked 9-inch pie crust and smooth the top with a spatula to an even layer.
- Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack to set the filling before slicing.
- Serve: Serve each slice plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgence.
Notes
- Bourbon adds a signature Kentucky flavor but can be omitted or substituted with a splash of milk or coffee for variation.
- Choose either walnuts or pecans depending on your preference for nut flavor and texture.
- Ensure the pie is fully cooled before slicing to allow the filling to set properly.
- Use a toothpick test at the baking time’s end to check doneness; some moist crumbs are preferred for gooey texture.
