Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Prepare the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla, and cotton candy flavoring. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the wet mixture, mix until just combined.
  3. Bake: Divide batter and add optional food coloring. Fill cupcake liners and bake for 18–20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
  4. Decorate: Frost cupcakes with buttercream and top with cotton candy just before serving.
