Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, place the flour, sugar, milk, eggs, softened butter, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Mix Batter: Mix slowly at first just to moisten combined ingredients. Then use an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth and even in consistency.
- Reserve Chocolate Batter: Take out ¾ cup of the batter and set it aside in a separate bowl.
- Add Cocoa: Stir the unsweetened cocoa powder thoroughly into the reserved batter until it is uniformly chocolate in color.
- Layer Batter: Pour the remaining vanilla batter into the prepared cake pan. Then drop large spoonfuls of the chocolate batter on top of the vanilla.
- Create Marble Effect: Use a knife to gently swirl the chocolate batter through the vanilla to create a marbled pattern.
- Bake: Place the cake pan into the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Remove the cake from the oven and cool briefly on a wire rack. Then carefully invert the cake onto a serving plate or another cooling rack to cool completely before serving.
Notes
- Ensure butter is softened for easier mixing and better texture.
- Do not overmix once flour is added to avoid a dense cake.
- For a more pronounced marble effect, swirl gently with a knife without over-mixing.
- Use room temperature eggs and milk for optimal batter consistency.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing to maintain its structure.
