Ingredients
Scale
Mushroom Coating
- 500 g fresh mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
For Frying & Serving
- Vegetable oil, for frying (enough to cover 1/2 inch of the pan)
- 1/2 cup store-bought or homemade ranch dressing
- Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the coating station: In one bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third bowl, place the seasoned breadcrumbs.
- Heat the oil: Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Ensure there is enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan with about 1/2 inch depth for shallow frying.
- Coat the mushroom slices: Dredge each mushroom slice first in the flour mixture, making sure it is well-coated. Then dip each slice into the egg mixture, and finally press it into the breadcrumbs to fully cover each piece.
- Fry the mushrooms: Carefully place the coated mushroom slices into the hot oil. Fry them in batches, avoiding overcrowding to maintain oil temperature.
- Cook until golden: Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the mushrooms and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Continue frying: Repeat the frying process with the remaining mushroom slices until all are cooked.
- Plate the mushrooms: Once all mushrooms are fried, arrange them on a serving platter.
- Serve: Serve immediately with a small bowl of ranch dressing for dipping. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley for a festive presentation.
Notes
- To keep mushrooms crispy, serve them immediately after frying.
- You can substitute seasoned breadcrumbs with panko for extra crunch.
- Use fresh mushrooms for the best texture and flavor.
- Careful not to overcrowd the frying pan, which will cause the mushrooms to steam rather than fry.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a skillet to retain crispiness.
