Description

Decadent and creamy chocolate truffles made with smooth semi-sweet chocolate, rich heavy cream, and butter, then coated in cocoa powder, nuts, coconut, or sprinkles. These no-bake French-inspired dessert bites are perfect for holidays or anytime you crave a luscious homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffles

  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or finely chopped chocolate
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Coating Options

  • Cocoa powder
  • Finely chopped nuts
  • Shredded coconut
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate: Place the semi-sweet chocolate in a heatproof bowl, ready to be melted by the hot cream mixture.
  2. Heat the cream and butter: In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the heavy cream and butter together until it just starts to simmer, being careful not to boil.
  3. Combine cream with chocolate: Remove the cream from heat and immediately pour it over the chocolate. Let it sit undisturbed for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt fully.
  4. Mix until smooth: Gently stir the chocolate and cream together until the mixture is silky and well combined without lumps.
  5. Add vanilla: Stir in the pure vanilla extract evenly through the chocolate ganache.
  6. Chill the mixture: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the chocolate mixture is firm enough to scoop and handle.
  7. Shape the truffles: Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, scoop out portions of the mixture and roll them quickly into smooth balls with your hands.
  8. Coat the truffles: Roll each truffle in your choice of cocoa powder, finely chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or sprinkles to add texture and flavor to the outside.
  9. Final chilling: Place the coated truffles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate again until firm and ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a flavor variation, add a splash of liqueur such as Grand Marnier or a few drops of peppermint extract to the chocolate mixture before chilling.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks to maintain freshness.
  • Allow truffles to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving to bring out the best texture and flavor.
