Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Cookie Dough Filling
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
For Assembly
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and aid easy cleanup.
- Make Cookie Dough Filling: In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract for flavor. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until fully combined. Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips to incorporate them evenly into the dough.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet evenly. Cut the pastry into 4 equal squares to form the turnover bases.
- Assemble Turnovers: Spoon a generous amount of the cookie dough filling into the center of each pastry square. Fold each square in half diagonally to create a triangle and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal, preventing filling from leaking during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops of each sealed turnover with the beaten egg. This will give the pastry a beautiful golden and glossy finish after baking.
- Bake: Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the turnovers to cool slightly. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving to add a touch of sweetness and an attractive finish.
Notes
- Keep the puff pastry cold until ready to use to ensure maximum puff and flakiness.
- You can freeze the assembled turnovers before baking and bake them straight from frozen; just add an extra 2–3 minutes to the baking time.
- Ensure edges are well sealed to avoid filling leakage while baking.
