Description

These Cheesy Thumbprint Appetizers are a quick and delicious option perfect for effortless gatherings. Made with store-bought pastry dough filled with a savory cheese center and topped with a sweet and spicy hot pepper jelly, these bite-sized treats are easy to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 package store-bought pastry dough

Filling

  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Cheddar or any favorite cheese)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Topping

  • 1 jar hot pepper jelly (can be substituted with any preferred jam)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot enough to bake the appetizers evenly.
  2. Prepare the dough. Roll out the store-bought pastry dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into 12 equal squares or circles, depending on your preference.
  3. Make the cheese filling. In a bowl, mix the shredded cheese with minced garlic or garlic powder and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Shape the appetizers. Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture into the center of each dough piece. Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to create a small indentation or thumbprint in the center for the jelly.
  5. Add the jelly topping. Spoon a small amount of hot pepper jelly into the thumbprint indentation on each pastry piece.
  6. Bake. Arrange the prepared appetizers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the dough is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Cool and serve. Allow the appetizers to cool slightly before transferring them to a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature for best flavor.

Notes

  • Substitute the hot pepper jelly with other jam flavors like apricot or raspberry if you prefer a milder sweetness.
  • Use any cheese you like, such as Gouda or mozzarella, for different flavor profiles.
  • For a garlic-free version, omit the garlic.
  • These appetizers can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before your guests arrive.
  • Serve alongside fresh veggies or a dipping sauce for a more substantial snack.
