Ingredients
Scale
Bread Bowl
- 1 large bread boule (round loaf)
Shrimp
- 8-10 medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
Cheese Sauce
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Garnish
- 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat and hollow out the bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the top off the bread boule and carefully hollow out the center to create a bowl. Set aside the removed bread pieces for dipping later.
- Cook the shrimp: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Sear the shrimp for 1-2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Prepare the cheese sauce: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Pour in the heavy cream and bring it to a gentle simmer. Gradually whisk in the Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Assemble the bread bowl: Place the hollowed bread bowl on a baking sheet. Pour the cheesy garlic sauce into the bread bowl, then arrange the cooked shrimp on top evenly.
- Bake to finish: Bake the assembled bread bowl in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the bread are golden brown and the cheese sauce is bubbly.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chopped parsley over the top for a fresh burst of color and flavor. Serve immediately while warm, using the reserved bread pieces for dipping into the delicious cheese and shrimp filling.
Notes
- You can substitute the shrimp with cooked chicken or crab meat if desired.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the cheese sauce.
- Make sure to not overcook the shrimp during searing to keep them tender.
- This dish is best served immediately to enjoy the contrast between warm melted cheese and crispy bread.
- Leftover bread bowl can be toasted and served with soup.
