Ingredients
Scale
Chicken Filling
- 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sriracha or chili garlic sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped green onions (optional)
Buns
- 6 soft sandwich buns or dinner rolls
- Extra cheese for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare it for baking the filled buns.
- Prepare the chicken mixture: In a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken, mayonnaise, sriracha, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, mozzarella cheese, and cheddar cheese. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Prepare the buns: Slice the tops off the buns or carefully create a shallow well in the center of each bun, being careful not to cut all the way through to hold the filling securely.
- Fill the buns: Spoon a generous amount of the cheesy chicken mixture into each bun, filling the hollowed area or the bun cavity to the top.
- Arrange for baking: Place the filled buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Optionally, sprinkle extra cheese and chopped green onions on top for added flavor and presentation.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the buns have turned lightly golden and toasted.
- Serve warm: Remove from the oven and serve immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can use rotisserie chicken to save time and add extra flavor.
- For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños or increase the amount of chili sauce in the filling.
- These buns also work wonderfully as party appetizers when made with slider rolls.
