Description

A delicious and comforting dish featuring hearty spaghetti with a savory meat sauce, all served inside a crisp, toasted bread bowl topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Perfect for a cozy meal that combines Italian flavors with a fun, edible container.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Sauce

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ½ lb Italian sausage
  • 1 jar (24 oz) spaghetti sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Pasta

  • ½ lb spaghetti, cooked and drained

Bread Bowls & Topping

  • 4–6 round crusty bread rolls
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped parsley or basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep Bread Bowls: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the tops off the round bread rolls, then carefully hollow out the centers, leaving a sturdy shell that will hold the spaghetti and toppings.
  2. Season & Toast: Mix together the olive oil, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush this flavorful mixture inside each hollowed bread bowl. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes until the insides are crisp and slightly toasted.
  3. Make Meat Sauce: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage until fully cooked. Drain the excess fat, then stir in the spaghetti sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer gently for 5–7 minutes to blend the flavors.
  4. Combine with Pasta: Add the cooked and drained spaghetti to the skillet with the meat sauce. Toss thoroughly so each strand of pasta is well coated with the rich sauce.
  5. Assemble Bowls: Spoon the saucy spaghetti mixture into each toasted bread bowl. Generously top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  6. Bake & Broil: Return the filled bread bowls to the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes until the cheese melts completely. For a bubbly golden crust, switch your oven to broil and broil for 1–2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.
  7. Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley or basil over the cheesy tops for a fresh finish. Serve the bread bowl spaghetti hot and enjoy every bite, including the edible bowl itself!

Notes

  • Make sure to hollow the bread bowls carefully to prevent them from collapsing when filled.
  • Use a crusty bread roll for the best texture — soft bread will get soggy too quickly.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter meat option.
  • Leftover bread bowls can be toasted and served as garlic bread for a tasty side.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add red chili flakes to the meat sauce.
