Ingredients
Scale
Beef Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Assembly
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese sauce)
- 4 large flour tortillas
Instructions
- Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the onions and beef.
- Sauté Onions: Add diced onions to the skillet and cook until soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Brown Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper for robust flavor.
- Finish Cooking Beef: Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat as needed to keep the filling from being greasy.
- Warm Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave to make them soft and pliable for wrapping.
- Assemble Burritos: Lay each warmed tortilla flat and layer the cooked beef mixture, diced tomatoes, chopped cilantro, shredded lettuce, and shredded cheddar cheese in the center.
- Add Cheese Sauce: If using cheese sauce, drizzle it over the filling for extra creaminess.
- Wrap Burritos: Fold the sides of each tortilla over the filling, then roll tightly from the bottom to enclose all the ingredients securely.
- Serve: Cut burritos in half and serve immediately while warm for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Use low-fat cheese or cheese sauce to reduce calories and fat content.
- For extra spice, add chopped jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce inside the burrito.
- Leftover beef mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free tortillas instead of flour tortillas.
