Description

This classic American burger features juicy grilled beef patties topped with melted cheddar cheese, a perfectly fried egg, fresh lettuce, tomato, and red onion, all layered with a tangy special sauce on toasted hamburger buns. The special sauce, combining mayonnaise, ketchup, and spices, adds a flavorful twist that elevates this burger to the next level. Perfect for a hearty breakfast or satisfying main meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Burger

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 hamburger buns (toasted)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 1 large tomato (sliced)
  • 1 small red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil for frying eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Special Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Special Sauce: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until smooth and well combined. Set aside to let the flavors meld.
  2. Form and Season Patties: Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape each into a round patty. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
  3. Cook the Burger Patties: Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt the cheese perfectly.
  4. Fry the Eggs: While the patties cook, heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and melt the butter or oil. Carefully crack the eggs into the skillet and cook until the whites are set but the yolks remain runny, or cook to your preferred doneness.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: Spread a generous layer of the special sauce on the bottom half of each toasted hamburger bun. Layer with a leaf of fresh lettuce, a slice of tomato, the cheesy burger patty, a fried egg, and some thinly sliced red onion. Close the burger with the top bun and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For extra indulgence, add crispy bacon or fresh avocado slices to the burger.
  • The special sauce can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Use a ring mold when frying eggs for perfectly round and uniform fried eggs to improve presentation.
