Description
Bobby Flay’s Salisbury Steak Recipe with Mushroom Gravy is a classic comfort food that combines juicy ground beef steaks with a savory mushroom gravy. This hearty dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a comforting meal on a chilly evening.
Ingredients
Scale
For the steaks:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80–85% lean)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 small onion, finely grated
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the mushroom gravy:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 ounces cremini or white mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme (fresh or dried)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the steaks: In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until just combined. Shape into 4–6 oval patties. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Make the mushroom gravy: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and melt the butter. Add mushrooms and onions, and cook for 6–7 minutes until softened and golden. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and cook for another minute, stirring constantly. Slowly whisk in beef broth, then add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3–4 minutes. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over the top, and simmer for 10–12 minutes, or until the steaks are fully cooked and flavors have melded.
Notes
- Serve with mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles for a classic comfort meal.
- For a deeper flavor, use a splash of red wine in the gravy.
- Leftovers reheat well and can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
