			Dough Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 large egg
Blackberry Filling
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Cream Cheese Glaze
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tbsp milk (optional, for thinning)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Warm the milk, melted butter, and water to about 110°F, then add to the flour mixture along with the egg. Stir until combined, then gradually add the remaining flour, kneading until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Make the Blackberry Filling: In a medium saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until thickened and the berries have broken down, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a 12 by 18-inch rectangle.
- Add Filling and Roll: Spread the blackberry filling evenly over the dough. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Proof and Bake: Place rolls into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), then bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the Cream Cheese Glaze: Beat softened cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar until smooth. Add vanilla extract and milk as needed to reach a spreadable consistency.
- Glaze the Rolls: After the rolls cool slightly, spread the cream cheese glaze generously over the top.
- Serve and Enjoy: These blackberry sweet rolls make a delicious fruity treat perfect for any occasion, best served warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh blackberries; frozen blackberries should be thawed and drained before cooking.
- If dough is sticky, add flour a tablespoon at a time during kneading.
- Ensure liquids are warm but not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- The cream cheese glaze can be made ahead and refrigerated; bring to room temperature before spreading.
- Store baked rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
