Description

This Beef Kofta Bake recipe is a Middle Eastern-inspired dish that features flavorful ground beef koftas baked in a spiced tomato sauce, topped with a tangy yogurt sauce. A delicious and satisfying main course option for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Koftas:

  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Tomato Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Topping:

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons tahini (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, grated onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper. Form into koftas and brown in a skillet.
  2. Prepare the Tomato Sauce: Sauté onion and garlic, then add crushed tomatoes, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer, then pour over koftas in a baking dish.
  3. Bake the Koftas: Cover with foil and bake for 20–25 minutes.
  4. Make Yogurt Sauce: Whisk together yogurt, lemon juice, and tahini. Drizzle over baked koftas and garnish with parsley.

Notes

  • You can prepare the koftas and sauce ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne to the meat mixture.
