For the Koftas:
- 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
- 1 small onion, grated
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Tomato Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Topping:
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons tahini (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, grated onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper. Form into koftas and brown in a skillet.
- Prepare the Tomato Sauce: Sauté onion and garlic, then add crushed tomatoes, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer, then pour over koftas in a baking dish.
- Bake the Koftas: Cover with foil and bake for 20–25 minutes.
- Make Yogurt Sauce: Whisk together yogurt, lemon juice, and tahini. Drizzle over baked koftas and garnish with parsley.
Notes
- Serve with rice, couscous, or warm pita.
- You can prepare the koftas and sauce ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
- For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne to the meat mixture.
