Description

Deliciously crispy on the outside and cheesy with tender broccoli inside, these baked broccoli cheese balls make a perfect vegetarian appetizer or snack. Easy to prepare and bake, they’re kid-friendly and pair well with your favorite dipping sauces.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely chopped broccoli florets (steamed)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plus more for coating)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing or spraying)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the steamed and finely chopped broccoli, shredded cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and onion powder until the mixture is fully combined.
  3. Form Balls: Scoop about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the mixture at a time and roll into compact balls with your hands. For extra crunch, optionally roll each ball in additional breadcrumbs.
  4. Prepare for Baking: Place the broccoli cheese balls evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush or spray the balls with olive oil to help them crisp during baking.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Flip the balls halfway through baking to promote even browning and ensure a firm texture. Bake until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce for a delightful appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • You can use panko breadcrumbs for an even crispier texture.
  • For a low-carb alternative, substitute almond flour for the breadcrumbs.
  • These broccoli cheese balls freeze well; bake first, then cool completely before freezing in an airtight container.
  • To reheat, warm them in the oven or air fryer for best texture and flavor retention.
