S’Mores Brownies

By admin | Filed in Other Yummy Treats

Amazing!!!!  That’s all I have to say about these brownies.  They’re a nice twist on an old favorite.  A super gooey chocolate brownie center is sandwiched between a crisp graham cracker crust and a fluffy marshmallow top.  These will bring out the inner child in everyone.

Directions:

-Pre-heat oven to 325

-Melt 12 tablespoons of unsalted butter and mix with 3 cups of graham cracker crumbs, 4 tablespoons of sugar, 2 pinches of salt and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.  Press mixture into greased 9×13 pan.  Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden, and remove from oven.

-While your crust is cooking make your favorite brownie mixture and layer it ontop of the graham cracker crust.  Bake brownies according to box directions.

-Place large marshmallows on top of cooked brownies and place back in oven under broiler for 1-2 minutes.

-Serve your yummy treats to your guests!

This fabulous cake is comprised of layers of vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting.  I covered the cake using pre-colored Satin Ice fondant.  I have to say that I LOVE the pre-colored fondant.  It saved about 30 minutes of time because I didn’t have to add drops of color one at a time.  I would recommend this product to anyone.  The booties, nameplate, pacifier and bows were all handmade using gumpaste.

This cake was for my husband’s birthday. He loves golf! The cake was layers of chocolate and vanilla cake with peanut butter frosting. I used vanilla Satin Ice fondant to cover the cake and Americolor gel colors to dye the fondant. I have seen other cake with a golfer blowing a ball into the hole and decided to do my own twist. All of the figures are hand sculpted. I had a blast making this cake!!

Satin Ice has been a favorite of mine for a while now.  The flavor and consistency are superior to other brands I have tried.  Satin Ice has now come out with a line of pre-colored pastel shades and I must say they are amazing!  The colors they offer are Baby Pink (pictured), Pastel Yellow, Pastel Green, Baby Blue and Lavender.  I’m going to be trying the Baby Pink shortly for a baby shower cake and I’ll be sure to post some photos!

Materials:

  • Gumpaste
  • Floral Wire
  • Floral Tape
  • Circle cutters
  • Ball tool
  • Rolling Pin
  • Dust Puff (filled with half cornstarch/half powdered sugar)
  • Sponge pads (thick and thin)
  • Paint brush
  • Water

Steps:

  1. Set up your work area with all the tools you will need.  Dust your work surface with your dust puff.
  2. Cut a 4-6″ piece of floral wire and wrap it with floral tape.  Now form a small hook at one end.  You will also need to make a gumball size piece of gumpaste to form your bud.
  3. Slide your gumpaste ball onto your floral wire towards the hooked end.  The hook will just help secure the ball into place.  Shape your ball into a cone to form your rosebud.
  4. Roll out your fondant until you can almost see through it and use the small circle cutter to cut 1 petal for the center of the rose and 3 petals for the first layer.  Use your large circle cutter to cut 5 more petals, which will form the outer layer of the rose.  Make sure to keep your circles covered so they do not dry out.
  5. Take one petal at a time to work on.
  6. Using your ball tool, create a ruffled edge  on the top half of your petal.
  7. Attach the petal with a dab of water at the base of the rosebud you made.  Repeat step 6 for all remaining petals.  Make sure to leave 10 minutes or so between each layer of petals so that the layer will have time to settle a bit.
  8. Enjoy your beautiful rose!

Tips:

  • You may want to hang your roses upside down to dry.
  • Add a bit of luster dust to the edges of the rose to give it a little extra sparkle.
  • You can add more layers to create a bigger rose.

To get the above look, you’ll need an embossing wheel or a quilting marker.  Creative Cutters makes an excellent quilting marker.  This was my first attempt at quilting.  I used an embossing wheel alone and thus, the diamonds were not quite even.  So the next time I needed to quilt a cake I purchased a diamond quilting marker from Creative Cutters.  The marker worked wonders!!!  Check out my post to see how the diamond quilting marker worked on a recent wedding cake I did.

Materials:

  • Fondant covered cake
  • Quilting Marker
  • Piping bag filled with buttercream or royal icing and fitted with a small round tip

1.  Hold your quilting marker vertical and lightly press into the surface of your cake.  Continue around the entire cake.

2.  Take your piping bag and pipe small dots where all of the diamonds intersect.

3.  Pipe a border around the bottom of your cake and you are ready to go!

Tips:

  • Make sure your quilting marker is flush with the base of your cake each time so that you have a consistent pattern.
  • It’s best to have a freshly covered cake when quilting.  This will help the pattern transfer more easily onto the surface of the cake.

Materials:

Gumpaste or fondant

Circle cutter

Paint Brush

Luster Dust

Letter Stamp

Rolling Mat

1.  Roll out your gumpaste or fondant on a nonstick rolling mat.  It should be approximately 1/8″ thick.

2.  Use your circle cutter to cut out the number of circles you will need for your project.

3.  Now take your letter stamp and press it down in the center of your cut out circle.

4.  Finally brush your circles with luster dust and allow to dry before placing on your baked goods.

Tips:

You can also pipe over the stamped letters with royal icing to add a little more flare to your monograms.  See how I did it for a bridal shower by clicking here.
