Gumpaste Poker Chip Tutorial

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

For all of you poker lovers……

Materials

Gum paste (red, blue)

Small rolling pin

2 circle cutters with a ¼” difference in diameter.

Paint brush

Black gel food coloring

Lightly dust your work surface with confectioner’s sugar and then roll your red or blue gum paste to 1/8” thick.   Use your larger circle cutter to cut out your poker chips and then make a slight impression with your smaller circle cutter in the center of each of your poker chips.

Finally, paint the lines and numbers on each chip using black gel food coloring.  You can also pipe the numbers with royal icing if you prefer.

Golf Cake

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

This cake was for my husband’s birthday. He loves golf! The cake was layers of chocolate and vanilla cake with peanut butter frosting. I used vanilla Satin Ice fondant to cover the cake and Americolor gel colors to dye the fondant. I have seen other cake with a golfer blowing a ball into the hole and decided to do my own twist. All of the figures are hand sculpted. I had a blast making this cake!!

Batter’s up!

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

This was a great cake to make!  It was my first time using a 3D ball shapped pan and although I was quite intimidated by the pan, I jumpped right in and it turned out amazing!

I also included a bunch of baseball cupcakes with the order!
